Ola! It’s that time of year again. Do we mean January, or do we mean living in perpetual fear of lockdown and illness? Who knows? No seriously, who actually knows?
Now, before we all dash off to make our kale smoothies and spoon ourselves back into our Lycra. We want to help prepare you for the first few weeks of 2022 with a little positivity that’ll put a spring in your step. Well, we’ll try at least…
So, here it is, our five-step guide to making sure you start January off the right way, despite what the latty flow has in store for you.
Step 1: Turn off the news
It might not be the politically correct thing to say, but with Christmas already done and dusted the die is well and truly cast. So, do you really need to see a mumbling ball of straw tell you about our Lord Saviour Peppa Pig while you’re having to eat your steamed broccoli and salmon as the rain mercilessly hits the window? No. You really don’t. You know what’s up, you know what to do, and you know it’ll take a helluva lot for you to lose the moral high ground over those involved in business-meeting-cheese-platter-gate. So, trust yourself and just turn it off.
Step 2: Eat what you want
This might be the anti-rule for January as we all fight the over-indulgence of Christmastime BUT the golden rule of eating exactly what you want, when you want, has never been more pertinent than now. Why? Well even though we’re no longer watching the news, there’s a fair chance we might all have to endure another round of stress-inducing restrictions in the foreseeable future. And what are lockdowns and the like good for? A body glow up! And what makes after pictures look even better? Putting on a load of weight beforehand! Follow us for more health and fitness tips. You are welcome.
Step 3: Be thankful
Yes, plans are still being thrown into disarray. Yes, you might be facing the bleakest month of the year in isolation, or worse, you might be having to endure a postponed Christmas with the people you managed to avoid last year. But guess what? It really could be worse. To steal (and paraphrase) a well-known quote, if you have a roof over your head, food on your table and someone annoying you on WhatsApp, then you are far luckier than you think. So, chin up and try and stay positive. You’ve got this.
Step 4: Dance like no one’s watching
Why? Because literally, no one is watching. If you’re having to isolate, stay away from social activities or simply don’t want to leave the house for reasons that have nothing to do with Covid, get those limbs moving with reckless abandon anyway. It might be a while before you feel comfortable hitting the dance floor again and dancing is too good for the soul to sit sullenly on a couch all January. So, if you are staying away from the (probably non-existent) January party scene, then please make sure you bring it to your living room instead. Crank up the volume, stretch out the hamstrings and let the dulcet tones of Bieber transport you to a new year, new you wonderland.
Step 5: Make plans
Finally, and most importantly, look to the future. 2022 is a new year brimming with possibilities and opportunities. Seize them. Even if January forces more downtime than you might like, there’s a whole 11 other months ahead where things can, and will, look much brighter. We haven’t all made it this far to only come this far, have we? Didn’t think so.
Well, there we are, the last thing you need to read before we lose you (and ourselves) to the January blues. Thanks for all your support in 2021 and thanks, as always, for reading.
